Desmond has gained two pounds since he was born. His pedi made the round about comment that some babies over eat and gain more than they need to. I just stared at him, wanting to ask if he was calling my son fat. It’s not like I can regulate how much milk the kid drinks. I can’t just pull the nipple out of his mouth and say, “Hey, you’ve had enough. Come back in two hours.”
The student doctor who looked at him yesterday kept calling Desmond by the wrong name and gender the entire appointment. I corrected him half a dozen times too, but he just kept calling him a her. Then, when his pedi came in, the student doctor kept trying to hold Desmond’s hand while Dr. Meng was looking at him. And Desmond didn’t even want to hold his hand! But the student doctor, Jason, just kept trying to stick his finger between my son’s tightly closed fist. I stared at him thinking, “Leave the poor kid alone! He doesn’t like you! YOU THINK HE’S A GIRL!”
Overall, Desmond is pretty average for his age. He was in the 40%-60% percentile for everything. He’s good to go.
We’re thinking he might be throwing up from motion sickness. The first time it was on his swing and the second time was when my husband was rocking him just after he ate. We plan to ask his pedi about it at his appointment next week, but if he keeps throwing up as much then we’ll definitely call the doctor before then.
He got horrible constipation from Enfamil though. The formula was really harsh on his system and now, six days later, it’s finally almost all out of his body. I’ll be sad if he’s lactose intolerant. :/ But if that ends up being the case, we’ll look into goat milk.
Dez is throwing up pretty much every other day and twice today. All he’s getting is breast milk. Anyone have any advice on how to prevent this?
Avent. Apparently it’s normal for a baby not to want to take a bottle from his mom at first. They can smell the breast milk or something. I was told to have my husband give it to him the first few times until he gets used to it.
Feeding usually takes 20-40 minutes, depending on how much my son eats. I manually express, usually only when I’m feeling full, and that takes about the same amount of time. My son won’t take a bottle from me even though it does have breast milk in it. So I end up using it only if my husband needs to feed him when I’m not around or when we take him out in public.
So Desmond got bad constipation from Enfamil formula and he’s still dealing with it three days later. Since we got the container of formula for free, I don’t feel bad not using the rest of it. However, he hasn’t felt good at all and he’s been eating less than normal. Which makes my boobs incredibly full of milk every now and again because he’s not eating his usual amount. I’ve decided to express some breast milk into a bottle, so then my milk supply wouldn’t dwindle and my boobs wouldn’t feel so full.
Down side: if I give him a bottle of expressed breast milk at a feeding instead of the boob, then my boobs get full again at the missed feeding and I have to express again.
I feel like this is a Catch-22.
